Latest Samsung Galaxy A52 update enables RAM Plus

While RAM Plus was mentioned prominently in the One UI 4.0 changelog, it is not included in Samsung’s Android 12 update. Samsung has enabled it on the Galaxy Z Fold3, the Galaxy S21 series, the Galaxy M52, and two of the A52 series – the 5G model and the A52s 5G – all of which are still running Android 11.

As part of the update that began trickling out earlier today, the 4G variant, the Galaxy A52, has now received RAM Plus. The October security patch (version A525FXXU4AUI3) is also included in the latest firmware (version A525FXXU4AUI3), which fixes over 60 vulnerabilities.

If you’re not familiar with RAM Plus, it’s a virtual RAM function that has recently been popular on Android phones. Essentially, it sets aside a portion of the internal storage — in the case of the A52, 4 GB – and uses it as RAM.
Memory paging (sometimes known as “swap”) is a mechanism that does exactly that. When the physical RAM runs out, apps that aren’t doing anything are pushed to storage, while apps that must run are loaded. As you may expect, this works best with quick storage (but it worked for decades with spinning hard drives, which are dog slow compared to modern flash memory).
