Tecno POP 5S is a New Compact, Entry-level Android With a Budget-friendly Price

Since the launch of the Tecno Spark 8 Pro, the company has been releasing simple, ultra-cheap phones one after the other. The majority of these phones are from their POP range (which has already welcomed two members just this year.) Tecno has now completed the lineup with the Pop 5S, a new entry-level model.

The Tecno POP 5S follows the same design principles as the rest of the POP series. However, it is on the smaller side, which is unusual in today’s Android market. The POP 5S’s narrow 5.7″ LCD screen, thick bezels, and hefty chin are evocative of a bygone era.

It has a circular notch with a low-resolution 2MP front camera. Because there’s no instant fingerprint scanner onboard, this lens also powers Face Unlock, which is an odd choice for a 2022 phone. The POP 5S has a 720P resolution but no additional features. Another 5MP sensor with an LED flash is found on the back of the phone.

You can choose between two colors: foliage green or vibrant lavender, both with a split two-tone matte finish and a Tecno mobile pricing. Of course, the POP 5 is made of plastic. In addition, the camera is concealed within a rectangular cutout.

Unsurprisingly, performance was not a concern for this entry-level Android, which is why the POP 5S is powered by an obscure Unisoc engine. It’s an old-gen CPU with a modest 1.4GHz clock speed. The battery has a capacity of 3020 mAh and is charged via an out-of-date micro-USB port.

The Pop 5S is a bulky device with a total weight of 160g and a thickness of about 10mm. It is available in a single 2GB+32GB storage configuration, with prices starting at PKR 18,900.
