Xiaomi’s first foldable smartphone, the Mi Mix Fold, was unveiled in April in China and has remained restricted to the manufacturer’s home nation to this day. While we haven’t heard anything about a Xiaomi foldable coming to the United States, a new rumor out of China suggests the company is working on a modest update of the original Mix Fold.
This isn’t a Mix Fold 2 in the traditional sense, as it’s essentially the same device as the first, with a few minor differences. One of the changes involves the panels and their refresh rates: instead of 60/90 Hz on the original, this enhanced version will feature 90 Hz on the inside screen and 120 Hz on the external screen.
In addition, an under-display camera will be present, albeit the leaker did not specify which screen it will be placed under. So we’re assuming we’re talking about the internal folding display, which didn’t have a selfie camera in the original Mix Fold.
Next, the new Mix Fold’s 5,000 mAh battery will reportedly allow 120W fast charging (up from 67W) for its 5,000 mAh battery, which is 20 mAh smaller than its predecessor.
That’s it for the modifications, which is why we said this would be a light update rather than a major overhaul.Nonetheless, all of these additions may help Xiaomi compete more effectively against the flood of foldables from other Chinese businesses on the horizon (and Samsung too if it ever decides to sell the Mix Fold outside of China).
